Steven Sato

President/Director

My family has lived in Sendai for generations.

I’m of Japanese & Irish decent and was raised in on the east coast of the United States of America. I have studied the Japanese language and have traveled to Japan for volunteer work.  My family was personally affected by the events of March 11th, 2011, which gives me a strong desire to connect with the residence of the Tohoku region.  I’m an advocate of meaningful acts of kindness to strengthen humanity.

I am excited to serve on the KASA board as I believe this new organization will bring many Americans into greater solidarity with the Japanese people and thereby strengthen the global community…

I am a poet and a teacher. I have served as a teacher in Native communities since 1997, beginning on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, then on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana, and now at the Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) in New Mexico. At SFIS, I founded the Spoken Word program and help students create and perform original poetry centered in indigenous philosophies. I self manage almost all aspects of the SFIS Spoken Word Program and have a good amount of grant writing experience. I have been committed to social justice work since high school, both in my home area of Washington, DC and with Native people in the western US. With kindness as our core philosophy and guiding principle, we aspire to both offer and receive good energy through meaningful partnerships with communities in Japan.

My involvement with KASA gives me strength knowing that I’m connected to my own country.  I know volunteer work is the right thing to do…

As an entertainer in Japan, my passion was to sing and dance. As a California State Certified Massage Therapist I have employed my talents with energy at Chiropractic offices and upscale hotels, and for events and health fairs sponsored by Body Charge Inc., a nationwide chair massage company with offices in Los Angeles, New York, and Las Vegas. Combining my artistic and energetic healing art in service to the physical and emotional needs of the people of Japan will be one of my highest goals and achievements. I feel a great sense of pride in helping the people of Japan.
